About EDI

The Economic Democracy Initiative (EDI), led by Bard College, is the Open Society University Network's collaborative program focusing on the structural determinants of economic insecurity. Its projects examine the connections between inequality, unemployment and poverty and the policy space and financing capacities of governments to address these challenges.
Labor Markets, Inequality, and Economic Policy

Labor Markets, Inequality, and Economic Policy

EDI’s inaugural projects focus on labor markets and the connections between unemployment, precarious employment, and broader socioeconomic deprivations. They examine the looming challenges faced by working people before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the structural forces within labor markets that produce and reproduce inequality and social exclusion. By advancing cutting-edge economic thinking and leveraging the interdisciplinary research and teaching methods of experts across the OSUN network and beyond, EDI explores policy solutions for a just and sustainable future.
