Weather/Clothing
Summer weather in the Hudson Valley area varies. The temperature in June can range from 60℉ during the evening to 85℉ during the day (16–30℃). Scattered showers and, at times, heavy rains are possible. Since workshop participants will be walking from their dormitories to meals and the workshop, a good pair of walking shoes or sneakers is highly recommended, as well as an umbrella. We suggest that you bring comfortable summer clothing, sandals, a swimsuit (if you wish), a sweater, and a windbreaker or jacket.

Please note that the workshop and dormitory rooms are air conditioned. If you are sensitive to cool, air-conditioned air, please bring layers of clothing such as a scarf, sweater, or jacket.

What to Bring
Please feel free to bring a laptop or tablet if you have one. While there will be no computer use allowed during lectures, some of the interactive classroom exercises will require a laptop. Students who do not have one will meet in the adjacent computer lab to complete the exercises.

Please bring any medication, toiletries, and weather-appropriate clothing (see above). As we are located in a wooded area, we recommend packing insect repellent. International participants should bring an electrical outlet adapter for plugging in a laptop, hair dryer, or cell phone charger. We do not have adapters available at OSUN-EDI. If possible, please convert currency to US dollars before you depart, as it is very difficult to convert currency while you are traveling, especially near Bard College. Bring proof of Covid vaccination and a Visa Invitation Letter for U.S. Customs (if traveling internationally).

Flying to LaGuardia Airport (LGA) or Newark Airport (EWR), you have three options to get to the Bard bus that leaves JFK at 6:30pm on June 5th: public transportation, metered taxi, or ride share (Uber or Lyft).

If you miss the Bard Shuttle to JFK

1. Metro North Railroad (MNRR) from Grand Central Station to Poughkeepsie Station
Please note: there are two train stations in Manhattan. Grand Central Station is for Metro North. Take the Hudson Line to Poughkeepsie Station.  You can buy a ticket from vending machines located in Grand Central Station. You can also download the ‎MTA eTix app to purchase tickets ahead of time.
Google Map link for Grand Central in Manhattan

You must let Tess or Jordan know if you miss the shuttle! There is no shuttle from the Poughkeepsie station to Bard, so we will need to arrange your pick-up. This is an emergency option ONLY, please do not plan to do this.

***Contact Tess Malova or Jordan Ayala to confirm your travel plan or to report problems.

2. Amtrak train to OSUN-EDI
Please note: there are two train stations in Manhattan. New York Penn Station (NYP) is for Amtrak.
(There is also a station called Newark Penn Station (NWK) that is NOT in Manhattan, so look carefully!)

If you miss the JFK Bard Shuttle and would prefer to pay more money to get to campus faster, you can take an Amtrak train from NY Penn Station (NYP) to Rhinecliff (RHI). (Train schedules at amtrak.com.) You must buy your ticket before you board the train. One-way fares range from $28 to $55 depending on time of travel and class of service.

In Rhinecliff there are usually taxis waiting at the train station. The taxi drivers are familiar with Bard. Ask them to take you to Keene Hall. We will have a table inside with keys and welcome packets.

Approximate Amtrak travel time from Penn Station to Rhinecliff station: 90 minutes

Driving to OSUN-EDI
If your plans include driving to OSUN-EDI, click here for directions.

Travel Options for Monday, June 19, 2023
A bus will leave Bard College at approximately 9am on Monday, June 19th to return to JFK Airport. The trip will take about two hours, but can take longer depending on traffic. There is no charge for the bus.

If your flight plans don’t work well with the 9am bus departure on Monday, June 19th, you can arrange to take an Amtrak train back to New York City’s Penn Station (NYP). You can find the train schedule at amtrak.com. You will need to arrange your own transportation at your own expense from OSUN-EDI to the Rhinecliff (RHI) station (a 15-minute drive).
